30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 30

Today, I am thankful for the Magik Theatre.  We went out on a limb about two years ago and bought tickets for a showing of the Jungle Book at the local children’s theater.  Addison had never sat still through an entire movie but we thought we would give it a try anyway.  She loved it, as did Dalton.  This is our second season of being season’s ticket holders and we still look forward to going every six weeks or so.  We still may not go to the movies often but you can always count on us for a review of the latest play.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 29

Today, I am thankful for Nikki, who is not only my trainer for the next four months but also a friend.  She pours her heart and soul into her clients and because I know that, I am thankful she has agreed to pour just a little bit of her heart and soul into me.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 28

Today, I am thankful for the Schertz Public Library.  Dalton and I have attended story time at the library since before Addie was born.  We’ve met several friends through the library, read many great books loaned to us by the library, and have many wonderful keepsake crafts to cherish that we made at the library.  It’s a great place to beat the summer heat or the winter chill.  The new building is beautiful and the staff is always ready to lend a hand.  We are truly blessed to have such a wonderful resource at our fingertips.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 27

Today, I am thankful for and proud of my husband and his new business.  RPM (realpropmetrics.com) was officially launched about one month ago.  He has poured his heart and soul into this idea for the last several years.  I am excited and thankful to see that his dream of owning his own company has finally come true.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 26

Today, I am thankful for Scholastic Book Clubs, children who love to get that big red box in the mail just as much as I do and a husband who indulges my simple pleasures.  You can never have enough books right?!?

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 25

Today, I am thankful for lazy Sunday afternoons.  We generally host a bible study at our home on Sunday afternoons.  Although we do love to open our home to others, every now and again it’s nice to have a lazy Sunday afternoon with just the family.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 24

Today, I am thankful for the wonderful city in which we live.  I couldn’t ask for a better place to raise my children.  Blake and I always joke that our kids grow up on vacation……partly because San Antonio is the place we both vacationed on several occasions as kids but mostly because our kids really have grown up on vacation.  Between Sea World, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, the zoo, Kiddie Park, museums, train rides, the Riverwalk, city activities and parks galore, we never seem to find ourselves lacking in things to do.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 23

Today, and always, I am thankful for my very best friend in the world….Jess.  We apparently met for the first time in grade school (which she remembers but I cannot recall) and then were reunited in high school.  We moved away for college together, spent two years in the dorms together and another two years in an apartment together AND lived to tell about it.  She was my maid of honor in my wedding, we ironically found out we were pregnant with both of our children on her birthday, and my children both think of her as “Aunt Jess”.  We cried together, laughed together, learned to drive together, vacationed together and learned how to live life together.  I couldn’t ask for a better friend.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 22

Today, I am thankful for friends and family for which to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday. I am thankful that we live near enough to both of our families so that holidays are just a short drive away.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 21

Today, I am thankful for losing track of time.  The kids and I have been very intentional about taking advantage of the beautiful weather over the school holiday this week.  We’ve managed to meet different friends at a different park every day this week.  All three days, I’ve lost track of time and stayed longer than I had planned.  It wasn’t due so much that I was having trouble getting the kids to leave, it was due mostly to being lost in conversations with good friends.  I am thankful that the kids and I are all surrounded with such wonderful friends who enjoy the outdoors as much as we do.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 20

Today, I am thankful that on this date 8 years ago, God had planned for me to become Mrs. Blake Lacy.  He is everything I could have asked for plus more.  I’m very thankful that he picked me to be his forever.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 19

Today, I am thankful for afternoon naps and kids who play well enough together so that I can sleep.  I stayed up way too late last night watching the live feed of the Arizona Ironman so I could see some old Team In Training teammates cross the finish line.  It was amazing and inspiring to watch.  Perhaps someday I’ll be the one crossing the finish line and can then say I earned the afternoon nap the next day.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 18

Today, I am thankful for the ups and downs of life.  Without sadness, we would not fully appreciate the happy days.  Without frustrations, we would never embrace the excitement of daily living.  Without sorrow, joy would feel incomplete.  The mountains are only majestic because of the valleys that surround them and so it goes with life.  No one wishes for hardships to come, but when they do we are able to look forward to what is to come with deeper appreciation.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 17

Today, I am thankful that Christmas shopping is complete!  The last few items have been ordered and should arrive sometime this week.  It helps that we are taking the kids on a trip this year for their gift, which cut our shopping list in half!

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 16

Today, I am thankful for chilly November afternoons.  They make the best ironing weather.  Ironing is usually one of my least favorite chores and since Blake needs to be well pressed 6 days a week, I spend A LOT of time at the ironing board.  However, when the air is a bit chilly inside and out, I look forward to ironing and feeling the warmth of the freshly pressed clothes against my chilled hands.  Luckily today is just one of those chilly November days and I can get caught up on the last three weeks of ironing.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 15

Today, I am thankful for warm November afternoons spent with friends at the park.  Addie and I discovered a new park a few weeks back.  We can be found there at least once a week enjoying a picnic lunch, playing with friends, riding bikes or getting a few extra miles in on the jogging trail after a morning workout at the gym.  This past weekend, we were able to enjoy our favorite new park with some favorite old friends.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 14

Today, I am thankful for my part time job.  It allows me to get out and do something for myself, earn a little bit of extra “fun” money for the family, allows for flexibility so I am not forced to compromise my mom duties and helps to encourage me to maintain a healthy lifestyle.  It is a great feeling to work for a company I believe in and help motivate others to live their best life possible.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 13

Today, I am thankful for kids who try my patience, make me constantly ask for forgiveness and show me unconditional love.  Here lately we have been going through a season of training and teaching with the kids.  It has been very trying most days.  However, when the day is over and all is said and done; Blake and I know without a doubt we have the best kids around.  The keep us on our toes and force us to be the best possible parents we can.  We are both very thankful that God has trusted us to be their parents.  Hopefully, they know just how thankful we are for them because I know they will outgrow this season of training and teaching before we know it.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 12

Today, I am thankful for our Veterans.  Without them, we would not know the freedoms that we do.  I am thankful we live where we do, are constantly surrounded by men and women who are currently serving and make the meaning of Veteran’s Day that much clearer in our lives.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 11

Today, I am thankful for our church.  With much hesitation, our family decided to switch churches almost two years ago.  Blake had always gone to a Methodist Church, so switching to a non-Methodist Church was done with much prayer and consideration.  However, we both felt we wanted the kids to “grow-up” in the church.  When your church is a 30 minute drive away, that just doesn’t seem to happen.  We have been so happy with our new church family.  The kids love it, are learning and growing in God’s word by leaps and bounds and have made many new friends.  Blake and I both feel that we are challenged to live a more Christ-centered life and scramble to be the first to listen to a missed sermon online.  We really feel at home with our new family of believers.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 10

Today, I am thankful for my local YMCA.  Our family decided to join a little over two years ago even though it was a little more than we typically like to spend on a gym membership.  However, the benefits we receive from this facility far outweigh the costs.  I’ve made countless friends through the Y, as well as the kids.  Both Dalton and Addie beg to go if we haven’t been in more than 2 days.  They offer great classes, fun community events and a welcoming environment for all.  I would truly be lost without my almost daily trips to the Y.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 9

Today, I am thankful for my little kitchen helper.  Addie and I started “cooking” together over a year ago.  Our goal is to do it everything Thursday evening.  Unfortunately, life happens and so cooking together doesn’t always happen.  However, she is always so excited to bring out her footstool, strap on her apron and help out no matter what the project at hand will be.  Last night, we tried out a new no flour, no oil, somewhat healthy banana muffin recipe.  We also made some chocolate chip cookies from a mix just in case the muffins turned out to do be dog treats.  It’s amazing to see how well she follows directions, cracks eggs, cleans up her own mess and just enjoys our special time together.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 8

Today, I am thankful that my children take time to stop and smell the flowers, pick their finds, and beg me for the perfect little cup to display them in.  Even though their “flowers” may just be weeds to most, it reminds me that they are able to see God’s beauty in all of his creation. It also reminds me that I need to take time to stop and smell the flowers too!

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 7

Today, I am thankful for busy schedules.  The kids and I had a very full assortment of activities to do today that is finally coming to an end for me just before 9 pm tonight.  I am thankful that I am able to get to do all of these things with my children even if it means my work day as a stay at home mom was non-stop for almost 15 hours today.  I am thankful that I am able to be the one who cares for them and that they are not being raised by strangers.  I am thankful that I am the one who gets to make the new memories with them rather than hearing about them from someone else.  A day of idleness sometimes seems like a far off dream, but truth be told I would always choose a day of busyness with my children than an idle day spent alone.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 6

Today, I am thankful for my puppies.  They bring so much happiness to our family.  They are loyal, loving, silly and brave.  I could not imagine life without them'.

30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 5

Today, I am thankful for my family.  Both the family I was born into and the family that I was given the opportunity to marry into.  They drive me crazy at times and bring on tears of joy in the very next moment.  They are dependable, caring, funny, quirky, and mine!
