In the Kitchen: A Turkey Treat

Addie and I skipped our traditional “In the Kitchen” festivities tonight since she is “germ-y”.  I did throw these cute little snacks together today to take up to my preschool class since I was missing the feast.  I forgot to take a picture, so this is the one from the family fun website.  Mine were laying flat since I had to transport them up to the school.  Addie and I plan to make some more in Angelo over the holidays along with a few other goodies.  Hopefully I’ll remember to take some pictures.

Pinterest Project #2

The turkey shirt/dress from my last post was my first Pinterest inspired project.  As I was browsing through my “pins” tonight, I found another one that I thought I could throw together quickly.

Here it is:

Believe it or not, that used to be one of my sweaters.  I didn’t wear it often because it always felt a bit short on me.  Thanks to Pinterest, I was able to turn it into a sweater dress for Addie.  She loves to play dress up in my clothes and shoes, so she was just thrilled to know that one of her dresses came from my old sweater.  Have any old sweaters you no longer wear?  In about 15 minutes, you can turn it into a cute dress for some special toddler!

Cabin Fever

Addie ended up with Strep, so we’ve been camped out at home for most of the week.  I cleaned like a mad woman on Tuesday, cuddled up and watched movies with Addie most of Wednesday and today decided to pull out the sewing machine to see what damage I could do.

Here’s what I came up with:

100_6605

Just in time for Turkey Day!  This was inspired by an idea from Pinterest.  I think this is my favorite thing I’ve made Addie so far.

100_6607

Added some ruffles to a pair of pants that Addie outgrew way too fast!  We also had a random purple shirt that didn’t match anything, so this was the only fabric on hand with any purple in it.  Random Purple Shirt + Too Short Pants = Problem Solved!

A is for Addison!  By the way, A is NOT for Addie.  Apparently my little girl is growing up and prefers “Addison” to “Addie” now.  Oh and this is the second time these pants have been repurposed.

Last spring they were part of this outfit:

March 2011-12 (2)

But the shirt is too small, so I thought I could make a new shirt and reuse the pants.  Well, apparently I didn’t remember exactly what material I used on the pants and decided the new shirt didn’t exactly match.  So I cut off the old ruffles, added a new cuff to coordinate with the new shirt and a whole new outfit was born.

S is for Sophie, my most favorite niece!  (I can say that since I only have one at the moment. )  It will be a little big, but I’m hoping she can wear it as a “dress” with a pair of leggings until she grows into it.

Did I mention Buddy, our beagle, is not feeling great this week either?  Addie said she was going to watch cartoons this morning while I was sewing.  After a few minutes, I realized I didn’t hear the TV so I went looking for her.  This was the sweet picture I found:

She even brought Buddy his own blanket and “mimi” (aka: the little blue lovey blanket).  I just wish I could keep her this age forever!

Chosen: Marathon for Adoption

I branched out this year and decided to try a different race in addition to Rock n’ Roll San Antonio.  Everyone knows how beautiful the Texas Hill Country is, so I decided to sign up to do an event that helps to raise money to fund families who are looking to adopt.  The race took place in Gruene just outside of New Braunfels.  We’re never disappointed when we head up there with the family in the evenings or for a few hours on the weekends and this race proved to provide the same experience.  This was only the second year for this marathon and half marathon and I hope it continues for many more.  It is a fabulous run and supports an even better cause.

October 2011-208

They even had personalized bibs for all the runners.  I thought I would have to sign up to do a full ironman to get this kind of treatment.  I guess I can mark Ironman off my bucket list of things to do now.

October 2011-209 October 2011-211

Camping out in the car before the race to stay warm.

October 2011-215 October 2011-216

The kids enjoying some race day activities.

October 2011-217

Waiting at the finish line.

Chosen 1/2 Marathon | 2:14 Finish

Just a few steps away from the finish line.

October 2011-221

Finished with a time of 2:14.44.  Maybe one day I’ll be able to break the 2 hour time mark for the half.  This Sunday is Rock n’ Roll.  I’m hoping to do the full in 5 hours or less.  I’ll let you know how it goes.

Mistreated

Poor Belle, always mistreated….

October 2011-169

…always having to fend for herself for something to eat…

October 2011-164

…and her bowl of ice cream isn’t even half the size of daddy’s bowl!

Diva

We were on our way to AWANA’s one evening when this is what I saw in the backseat.

October 2011-163

Not only did she steal my sunglasses, but she has quite the collection of bling on both hands.

Meeting our new cousin

Blake’s cousin Leland and his wife Laura welcomed their first beautiful baby boy into the world just over a month ago.  We were lucky enough to meet baby Lane when he just shy of a week old.

October 2011-159

Almost makes me want another one…..almost!

October 2011-160

Dalton is proud to be a new big cousin….Addie on the other hand isn’t so sure!

Señior Oso

Addie’s in the Bear Class at her preschool and was trusted with the responsibility of bringing the class pet, Mr. Bear, home one weekend.  He was supposed to go everywhere with our family that weekend, while we documented his travels through photos.  His first adventure was getting to ride home from school with Addie in her stroller.  Addie’s preschool is close enough that we try to walk during the two weeks a year when the weather is not too hot or too cold.  Addie fell asleep on the way home, but enjoyed having Mr. Bear to cuddle with during the ride.

October 2011-121

That night we read one of Addie’s favorite bedtime stories with Mr. Bear.

October 2011-129

We tucked him into his own special little bed beside Addie.  She does NOT like for anyone or anything to invade her space at night which is why he had his own little basket.  She gets very distressed when one or both of the dogs try to sleep with her.  Silly girl!

October 2011-130

Mr. Bear was also able to enjoy Addie’s final ballet class of the session with our family.  Here he is with Addie and one of her best friends.  The girls are just 3 months apart in age.  Just another piece of evidence we are raising a giant.  I’m pretty sure she is going to catch up with her big brother soon!  I always wanted to be 5’10’’.  Perhaps she’ll make it there.

October 2011-137

Mr. Bear also had the opportunity to visit our church with us on Sunday morning.  He went with us to drop Addie off in her class, but then had to come to big church with Blake and me so he wouldn’t get lost.  Addie was pretty sad that he wasn’t able to stay and play with her the entire time.

October 2011-156

Once Mr. Bear was safely returned to the class, Addie and I set off to make some scrapbook pages to add to the class book.  Here is Addie helping me sort through all of our supplies.

October 2011-157

I love that her teacher often assigns “homework” for us to work on with the family.  Life can get so busy that it’s nice to have to take a break to do something fun and educational with the kids.

Fiesta Farms

A few weeks back the family headed out to use a Groupon we had purchased to a place called Fiesta Farms.  It’s a quaint little family run farm just outside of San Antonio were the kids were able to enjoy a variety of different farm animals and even a pony ride (well Dalton did anyway).  That may not seem like a big deal knowing Blake and I both grew up in West Texas where farm animals are plentiful, but well for our little city slickers we want to make sure they know the difference between a goat and sheep.

Feeding the bunnies.

October 2011-83

October 2011-85
