In the Kitchen: Birthday Cupcakes

Addie and I haven’t been quite as diligent with our Thursday evening cooking sessions lately, but with Dalton’s birthday just around the corner, we knew we better get busy.  This year Dalton is having a bowling party and requested sports themed cupcakes.  Since cupcakes are pretty easy to whip up, we decided to take it up a notch with a “tie-dye” style batter.

Dalton’s favorite color is green, so we tried to make sure each one had a lot of green showing.

Future Marathoner?

Dalton decided he was ready to join me in one of my favorite hobbies….running!  Once he said he was ready to run, I quickly got online and found the perfect 5K race for us to do together.  It is sponsored by the same organization that hosts my favorite half marathon in the fall and it just so happens that it falls on his birthday this year!  Our training got off to a rocky start.  I don’t think he quite grasped how far three miles can be.  However, he stuck with it and really started to love it by the end.  This is our final training run of 3 miles prior to the 5K.

And we’re off…….

(Addison doesn’t seem to have been bitten by the running bug….YET!)

Cousin Celebration

Since all the cousins came down for Easter, we decided to have a little birthday celebration for Dalton.  He requested pizza, ice cream sundaes and fun times with family.

Tie-Dyed Eggs Anyone?

It just wouldn’t feel like Easter without dying a few hard boiled eggs around the Lacy Household.  We’ve done it every year since Dalton was old enough to walk.  But, truth be told….I don’t think we’ve ever actually hidden any of the eggs.  Perhaps we can start that tradition next year…..that is if we remember!

“Egg”stravaganza

This year, I had the privilege of helping to organize one of the community egg hunts sponsored by our church.  It was a lot of fun and a great opportunity to come together with the surrounding community to celebrate the holiday season.  I was the person “in charge” so to say and Blake was busy doing my bidding, which means we took very few pictures of our own kids.  Oh well!  We still have great memories.  Grandma also came down for the weekend with all the cousins.  Asher and Sophie didn’t quite know what to make of all chaos but Dalton, Addie and Clayton had a great time with the egg hunts, games and bouncy castles.

Good Friday

Blake had to work this year on Good Friday (the banker’s holiday schedule apparently doesn’t apply to religious holidays anymore?!?), so the kids and I loaded up and headed to New Braunfels for some morning crafts at Bisque Bistro.  Addie and I had been several times before, but this was a first for Dalton.  They have a story time and craft every Friday morning.  Today’s story was the Parable of the Lily.  After the story, they each were able to paint a ceramic cross.  They both had fun and now have cute crosses to hang in their bedrooms.

Working Vacation

Blake had to make a quick trip down to Brownsville for work.  Rather than take the trip in the middle of the week, which would cause him to be out of the office all day, we decided to wake up early on Saturday morning, load up the car and make a family day trip to the beach out of it.  The weather was beautiful!

The Chick-fil-a in Brownsville just happened to be having a Daddy-Daughter Date night that weekend.  After a day at the beach, we headed over to the mall, where Blake and Addison enjoyed an evening at Chilk-fil-a and Dalton and I did our own Mommy-Son version at a nearby pizza place.  After dinner, we all met back up and let the kids ride on a two story carousel housed in the mall food court.

It was a quick trip and A LOT of time spent in the car, but everyone was still smiling on the way home that evening!
