Girls Weekend

While the boys were off hunting for the weekend, Addie and I enjoyed some girl time together.  We started off the weekend with a quick trip to DQ for some ice cream Friday evening…..shhhh, don’t tell the boys!  We stopped by RedBox on the way home to pick up a movie.  (On a side note….When did RedBox go up to $1.20?!?  A movie for a buck….that made sense.  Now saying a movie for a $1.20…..that just seems strange.)  Finally we were headed home to put on some pj’s and snuggle up.

Saturday morning we were up early to join some friends at the San Antonio CureSearch Walk hosted by Sea World.  It was  a walk to raise funds to help find a cure to end all childhood cancers.  Such an inspiring event to see all those families out there who have been touched by cancer.  It reminds me to be thankful daily of my healthy, happy and even a bit ornery children.

 

Walking with the Green Family.  Maddie, their 2 1/2 year old, is in the stroller on the far left.  She was diagnosed with Leukemia this past March.  The continued strength and grace displayed by the entire family through this difficult time is an amazing testament of their faith.

After the walk, Addie and I decided to hang around Sea World and enjoy some shows and rides.

After spending a few hours visiting our favorite marine animals, we headed home to see our favorite cousins.  Cousins Clayton, Asher, Sophie and Aunt Misty came over to spend the night.  I forgot to take pictures while they were visiting, but Addie enjoyed having them here even if it was just a quick trip.

We finished off the weekend with a quick arts and crafts project for Addie’s preschool class.  She was given the task of creating a disguise for her turkey so he (or she in our case) could escape being the main attraction of the Thanksgiving meal.

Boys Weekend

Blake and Dalton headed up to Angelo for opening weekend of deer season earlier this month.  I think it may be the first time since married life that Blake has made it out for opening weekend.  Needless to say, they were both excited.  Poc, Blake and Dalton went out early on Saturday and shot a 9-point, 18"-spread buck.

Field Day

Dalton’s school hosted a field day a few weeks back.  It’s a day dedicated to get kids up and moving with the hopes of showing kids that being fit can be fun.  Here are a few pictures from some of the wild and crazy activities they classes were able to participate in.  Some of the stations were quite entertaining to watch.

The school did a great job implementing Field Day again this year.  I am always so thankful for the opportunities  to go up and enjoy some of these sweet childhood memories with my little man.  After all, he isn’t so little anymore.

In the kitchen: Homemade Cinnamon Roll Bread

Addie and I have been continuing our “In the Kitchen” tradition each week.  She loves to help and I really enjoying spending the one on one time with her.  A few weeks back, we tried out a new homemade cinnamon roll bread recipe.  The presentation is lacking a bit, but they were yummy.

These were a big hit with the entire family.  We’ve actually made these a few times now because they are so simple and quick.  Too simple and too quick perhaps because I’ve had way more than my fair share.  We made need to retire this recipe for a while.

Pumpkin Project

Each fall, Dalton’s school has held a pumpkin decorating contest.  Last year we made Frankenstein.  Sadly, we didn’t win but it was still fun to work on a project with the family anyway.

This year we decided to really try to think “outside the pumpkin” and came up with this:

Catching Up

October Update

Somehow I managed to get WAY behind on the family blog last fall.  So today, I am playing catch-up once again.

October was a busy month for us….323 pictures busy.  Here are a few of the highlights.

 

 

 

 

We enjoyed an afternoon in Gruene together as a family.

We stopped by the Snake Farm to see some animals.

We cheered on Dalton during Field Day.

We went to Fiesta Farms to see some animals.

Addie and I enjoyed a spur of the moment picnic one afternoon.

We did A LOT of cooking.

We shared our home with Mr. Bear for the weekend.

Addie had her first ballet recital.

We met our new cousin, Lane.

We went to AWANA’s at our new church.

We made our annual trip to the Bracken Pumpkin Patch.

We entered our “Snowman” into the annual pumpkin carving contest at Dalton’s school.  We did not win.

We made spider and broomstick snacks for a Halloween playdate.

We watched Dalton’s book character parade at school.  He went as the skeleton from Skeleton Hiccups.

I ran my fastest (so far) half marathon time of 2:14 at the Chosen: Marathon for Adoption in New Braunfels.

We went to the RAFB airshow and played inside some really cool planes.

We celebrated the 30th anniversary of our church.

We enjoyed the Fall Festivities with our church family.

We enjoyed food, fun and games during the Fall Carnival at Addie’s preschool.

And we ended the month in a sugar induced coma with all the yummy snacks from all the fun fall activities.

October was a great month in the Lacy Household!

Skeleton Hiccups

This week was Red Ribbon Week at Dalton’s school.  Like the great mom that I am, it didn’t even cross my mind to take pictures of him all dressed up each morning this week.  Today was the Book Character Costume Parade.  We were less than half a mile away before it dawned on me to make sure I had my camera.  Luckily, it was tucked away in the bottom of my purse were it usually makes it home.  The poor thing gets so abused which is why you’ll notice it is focusing less and less these days.  Maybe one day when I start treating my cameras nicer, we’ll buy a new one.  Until then, you’ll just have to deal with the somewhat blurry pictures.

I usually make the kid’s Halloween costumes.  However, last year he said he wanted to be a skeleton for Halloween this year.  I happened to be at Target right after Halloween last year and found a skeleton costume for less than $5 on clearance.  It hung in his closet all year.  We pulled it out a few weeks back to try it on.  It fit.  I told him I would make him anything he wanted and that he didn’t have to be the skeleton.  I was less than $5 afterall….not a big deal if he didn’t want to wear it.  Plus, I was kinda sad I wasn’t able to make him something.  I get to make Addie clothes all throughout the year.  Halloween is really the only time I get the chance to make him something that wouldn’t end up looking a little girly.  But the skeleton won out.  Luckily, because of my addiction to Scholastic Book Clubs, we have a book to cover just about every “book character” imaginable.  Skeleton Hiccups went into the backpack and Dalton was ready for the parade!

I didn’t let him wear the mask because I felt it was a little too scary for school.  Apparently I am a very conservative mom because we had to leave halfway through the parade.  Once the big kids started coming by, Addie was getting a little freaked out by some of the costumes.  Seriously….who lets their kid were a werewolf costume to school with somewhat real blood covering their shirt?!?
